APRILIA WEST, PsyD is a clinical psychologist offering evidence-based psychotherapy for individuals and couples to treat anxiety disorders, depression, mood disorders, trauma, chemical dependency problems, and interpersonal and relationship problems in San Francisco and Los Angeles. She also offers executive coaching and performance training services to clients who are seeking professional development and growth. Her passion for helping people become powerful with their emotions led her to develop Emotion Efficacy Therapy (EET), a brief evidence-based protocol to help people respond to intense stress and maintain high performance, and she is co-author of Emotion Efficacy Therapy, (Context Press, 2016). She is currently writing a second book for consumers.
Prior to entering the field of psychology, Dr. West was an advisor, organizational consultant, mediator and executive coach for Fortune 500 companies, entertainment industry executives, public leaders and national and international non-profit advocacy groups and campaigns. West is a certified mediator and completed training in conflict resolution at the Harvard Law School Program on Negotiation. From 2003-2006, she was also a staff songwriter with Warner/Chappell Music, a division of Warner Music Group, in Los Angeles .She holds a doctorate in clinical psychology from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA, and a bachelor’s degree in English and master’s degree in Teaching from the University of Virginia. She maintains private practices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.
MATTHEW MCKAY, PhD is a clinical psychologist and professor at the Wright Institute in Berkeley, CA. Dr. McKay developed Emotion Efficacy Therapy (EET) with Aprilia West, PsyD, and is co-author of Emotion Efficacy Therapy, (Context Press, 2016). He currently serves as the director of the Berkeley Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Clinic. In 2016, McKay founded the Bay Area Trauma Recovery Clinic, providing low-fee services for people recovering from trauma.
Dr. McKay has also authored and coauthored numerous books, including The Relaxation and Stress Reduction Workbook, Self-Esteem, Thoughts and Feelings, When Anger Hurts, and ACT on Life Not on Anger. In private practice, he specializes in the cognitive behavioral treatment of anxiety and depression. McKay received his PhD in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology. He lives and works in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
